Welcome to the Good Life Cafe, aka the Good Life Health Food Centre Los Angeles TM

In August 1989, Good Life Health Food Centre was created to take advantage of the void in the health food market within the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles. Initially, when Good Life officially opened in January 1990, it was started to provide natural health food products to the community. Later, based on customer demand, a small dry goods and organically grown vegetable market area was added to the store. Finally, in late 1991, again based on customer demand, a cafe and socially responsive entertainment were added.

Jazz, Reggae, drumming circles, and academic lectures all had their day at the Good Life, but underground hip hop took root on Thursday nights and became legendary. Soon industry insiders came to scout for new music talent and to find film material.

Good Life was known worldwide for its humanitarian politics. Numerous articles were written, a tv show, and famous personalities like Marla Gibbs, Denzel Washington, Lindsay Wagner, Rosa Parks, and Maya Angelou would stop in to dine on organic eats, and have a chat with the proprietor (IfaSade) on the latest vanguard sciences.

This place was not normal. This was not a place, it was an experience; something that stuck to your insides. It was trans-formative in many different ways for people of backgrounds stretching from the American experience to the ends of the Earth.

Good Life was a culture and a movement centered around community and elders, while reaching towards concepts of enlightenment which date back to ancient civilizations.

The Good Life standard is a concept known to us all. The standard is: strive toward excellence in all things, and in life. Basically, be your best through proper nutrition and through food for thought and creation.

Thank you for experiencing the good life with us.

Ifasade’s Dreams for Good Life L.A.

Hi everyone, it’s time to update this blog and fill you in. So, I thought I’d share some of my mother’s visions for Good Life and our world.

Ifasade wished for children around the world to have access to excellent nutrition, healthcare, education, and safety. She sought to build clean water wells in African villages for the benefit of families.

In the U.S., she wanted reparations for blacks and indigenous tribes. She thought affirmative action had barely scratched the surface of karmic debt to be paid.

Women’s rights were foremost on her mind. She wished that I would have access to all of the opportunities afforded the top 1% of American citizens.

True Equality.

And she wanted us to take care of our environs. To clean and caretake the oceans and protect natural drinking water.

Most of all, she hoped that cultural exchange through the arts and sciences would bring the world’s nations closer together.

My mother had many dreams and wishes. I think that some of them are manifesting now. She would want us to take care of our dreams and nurture them like a sapling tree; growing strong roots in order to weather the storms of creation before the dawning light of true humanity working together.

Take care of your dreams. Hold steadfast to your true identities. Remember what elders have taught us through word and deed.

Create a Good Life wherever you are.
